Come check out the books that inspired a President

We have a small shelf of books in our reading room area. Our patrons can do a little presidential reading. Inspired by McNally Jackson Books, a bookstore in New York, we have replicated their List of Titles read by Obama. This is a collection of 54 books that inspired Barack Obama as a young man in his 20s. The list is based on research, on a reading of Obama's autobiographical books, and interviews that Obama has given. Many of these are classics, so maybe you may have read some already. We have placed the shelf in the reading room area with a brochure that provides the complete list with library call numbers. There are seven items on the list that the Muntz Library does not have. For those items, please feel free to request them via Interlibrary Loan. We hope that you will browse the shelf,  pick up a book or two, and find yourself inspired as well. If you do pick up and read some of these books, please feel free to let us know what you think here in the comments.

Hey John. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. When I saw news of your display, I thought we could do something similar. It seemed so timely and relevant (new President, Black History Month). Let's hope we get people reading. Best.

I think it's fantastic! I hope your patrons enjoy it as much as I did putting the collection and panel together.
