Who was
Robert R. Muntz?
Robert R. (Bob) Muntz (1923-1978)
was a native of Sylvannia, Ohio. He entered basic training for World
War II at Camp Fannin, Tyler, and it was during this time (Summer 1943)
that he met Maurine Genecov. After serving in the Army in Europe
several years during the Battle of the Bulge, he married Maurine
Genecov on June 1, 1947.
After the war, he completed a
Baccalaureate Degree in Chemistry from the University of Toledo. After
graduating from the University of Toledo, he moved to Austin to teach
Chemistry at The University of Texas. His first job was as a research
Chemist for Southland Paper Mills in Lufkin, Texas. He then moved to
Tyler to work at Roosth & Genecov as head of the construction
department and as Secretary-Treasurer of Roosth & Genecov
Production Company.
Mr. Muntz was a devoted husband
and father, an avid orchid grower, a noted collector of art and an
ardent philologist.
How
large is the library's collection?
The Robert R. Muntz Library
has over 180,000 books, subscriptions to over 500 print journals, and
provides access to over 75,000 ejounals and over 165,000 ebooks. For

Are
there computers available in the library?
The Robert R. Muntz Library
has 31 computers available in the following locations:
The library also checks out
laptops, for use in the library, which are available at the Circulation
desk. Wireless internet is available to those with a Patriot Air account.
I am not
a UT Tyler student, can I use the computers in the library?
The library has two computers,
located on the 2nd floor, available for use by the public. These
computers can be used to search the internet but do not have MS Office
software installed. They also do not have USB/Flash/Thumb Drive
availability. To use one of these computers, please speak with the
person at the Reference desk.
What
about printing?
There are 3 printers on the
Pharos System which require Student IDs to print or $.05 a sheet with a
Student ID, $.10 a sheet without a Student ID, or $.10 for the public.
Personal computers (laptops) will not print to the Pharos System
printers.
And
color printers?
No, unfortunately, the
library does not have color printers for patron use at this time. If
you need to print something out in color, please visit the Copy Center
located on the 1st floor of the library.
Is
there any other equipment available for students?
Microfilm
readers/printers are available on the 2nd and 4th floors for viewing
and printing microfilmed periodicals and microfiche. There is no charge
for this service. A digital microfilm scanner is available on both the
2nd and 4th floors which can be used to convert microfilm/microfiche
scans into PDF documents.
There are 2 photocopiers
available on the 2nd floor and 1 photocopier on the 4th floor.
On the 3rd floor there
are 4 rooms with special equipment. These rooms are available on a
first come, first served basis for checkout at the Circulation desk and
are equipped as follow:

These
rooms are each equipped with CD/Cassette/Record Player and headphones
are available for checkout at the Circulation desk.
Video
Room (1)
This
room is equipped with a TV and VHS Video player.
Visually
Enhanced Room (1)
This
room contains adaptive technology for patron use. This equipment
includes a computer with application software (Word, Excel,
Powerpoint), Jaws for Window, MAGic Professional with Speech, TOPAZ
Desktop Video Magnifier, and Dragon Naturally Speaking.
Where can
I find a quiet place to study?
There are tables located on the
2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. There are individual carrels located on the
3rd and 4th floors. If you require even more privacy, the library has
13 study rooms available for checkout at the Circulation desk.
How do
I request that the library purchase a book/journal/database?
There are plans to provide an
online form so that requests may be submitted through the library's
website but for the time-being, please contact your Librarian
Liaison with any requests.
Are
there libraries on the Longview and Palestine campuses?
Both the Longview and Palestine campuses have
small print collections. Students, faculty, and staff at both campuses
may request items held at the Tyler campus by filling out a Materials
Request form.
Digital resources subscribed to by the Tyler
campus are available to all three UT Tyler campuses. For more
