Reserve Operations
The
Robert R. Muntz Library provides Reserve services to support and
promote the non-profit educational use of a wide variety of materials
by our students and faculty. It is fundamental to the library's role as
a facilitator of knowledge to execute these services in legal
compliance with section 107 of the United States Copyright Act of 1976.
As a University of Texas component institution we adhere to the copyright policy set forth by that system.
Student Services
Reserves
Traditional
reserve items are located at the Circulation Desk on the second floor
of the Library. A valid UT Tyler I.D. card (P2) must be
presented to check out reserve items. Loan periods are set by each
instructor and vary from 2-hours in library use to 3-weeks checkout.
Reserve materials may not be renewed. Fines accrue at a rate of $.50
per hour for in-use materials and $.50 per day for items checked out of
the building.
Faculty Services
The
Library can place both library owned and personal copies of material on
reserve. Personal material placed on reserve for the first time will
not require copyright permission. Use of that same material in any
subsequent semester will require copyright permission. The following
guidelines must be observed when submitting material for placement on
Reserve:
- A Reserve Request Form
must accompany each Course Reserve. An item will not be processed
without the completed form. Forms can be obtained at the Circulation
Desk, through Campus Mail (Call 566-7342) or you can download the Reserves Form for convenient printing.
- Allow
2-3 working days for items to be processed. Material is processed
strictly on a first come, first served basis. Items to be used at the
beginning of a semester should be submitted 7-10 working days before
classes begin.
- All personal material will be bar-coded and incorporated into the library's security system.
- Individual
articles, tests and papers must be placed in separate folders and
clearly labeled with class and title information.
- Your personal
material will be removed from reserve and returned to you at the end of
each semester via Campus Mail unless other arrangements are made. Any
further use as a reserve item will require proof of copyright
permission.
**Note:
This summer the UT System finalized an agreement with the Copyright
Clearance Center for their Academic License. With this Academic
License, it is now possible for most course content to be posted within
Blackboard and automatically be covered by Copyright. With
this in mind, effective August 14, 2009, the Library will no longer be
providing ERES, our electronic reserves service. Other changes
were made during the summer to facilitate linking directly to licensed
library content from Blackboard when possible.
Below are some of the services and options available:
- Librarians are available to assist with locating and identifying content for your course(s).
- From
within Blackboard, students will be able to connect directly to library
resources without having to login a second time to the Library's Proxy
server.
- EVERY course for the Fall 2009 will have a Blackboard
"shell". Each instructor will need to make the course available to the
students within the course. Scott Dillingham, Blackboard
Administrator, is available to answer any questions or provide
assistance. Call Scott at 566-7439 or email scott_dillingham@uttyler.edu.
- Cindy
Smith, Office of Instructional Design, is available to assist you with
developing your course in Blackboard. Call Cindy at 565-5626 or email
her at cindy_smith@uttyler.edu.
