What are interlibrary services?
Services include borrowing materials (books, thesis/dissertations, copies of articles or book chapters) from other libraries as well as lending materials to other libraries.
Who may use these services?
Currently enrolled UT Tyler students, faculty and staff who are registered library users. To register, show valid UT Tyler ID at the Circulation Desk.
How do I request an ILL?
ILL Request forms may be obtained at the Circulation Desk or online using the "Request a Book" and "Request an Article" links above. When submitting a paper form, or using the Request links, please use a separate form for each requested item. Fill in item citation info as completely as possible. It is helpful if you supply a DATE in the "Need by" blank and an AMOUNT in the "Maximum Cost" blank.
If you experience problems sending these forms be sure that your browser is configured correctly to send E-mail.
Note to Faculty & Staff: You also have the option to email requests to Penny Reynolds (preynolds@uttyler.edu) or call ILS 903-566-7396.
What materials may be borrowed?
Copies of articles or chapters of books, loans of books, proceedings of conferences, etc..
Textbooks may not be ordered through Interlibrary Services. Notify your professor if the bookstore does not have your text book available so that a copy may be temporarily placed on reserve.
Most libraries will not lend whole issues of periodicals, reference materials, rare books, newly published books, audio tapes, CDs, videos, or computer software. Some libraries will lend thesis/dissertations. For those that do not, most can be purchased from UMI. Please call Penny Reynolds at 566-7396 for assistance with the purchase of thesis/dissertations. Copyright and ILL codes restrict copying of all articles from a single journal title.
How many requests are allowed?
Request as many items as needed. Limits may occur according to overall ILL volume. We may limit the number of loans in use by a student at any one time.
How long does it take?
All requests are processed as quickly as possible. Delivery depends upon the availability and shipping options at the lending library. Allow 7-10 working days as an average turn-around time. We try to obtain truly urgent requests (mainly for faculty publications or presentations) within 24-48 hours. Contact Penny Reynolds for rush service or other special needs.
What does it cost?
We do not charge unless the lending library charges us. Rush requests or requests from special libraries such as medical, research, or commercial suppliers can cost a minimum of $8-11.00. Faculty/staff may have costs charged to their departments.
How will I be notified when my material arrives?
We will notify you by phone or UT Tyler student email. Accounts are billed $2.00 (plus any charges) for items not picked up.
How long may I keep materials?
Photocopies are yours to keep. Due dates for books, etc. are set by lending libraries. Occasional renewals may be granted if requested before the due date. Contact the ILS office. Overdue fines are $2.00 a day for faculty, students, staff and alumni, alike.
Send all ILS related comments and questions to preynolds@uttyler.edu.
