Frequently
Asked Questions
Who may use
interlibrary loan?
Currently enrolled UT-Tyler students,
faculty, and staff who are registered library users.
What
materials may be borrowed?
Interlibrary loan is most frequently used to
borrow books and order copies of articles that the UT Tyler's Libraries
do not own. Items that usually cannot be obtained through interlibrary
loan include reference books, materials in special or rare book
collections, some dissertations and theses, and audiovisual materials.
If you have any doubts, please call us at 903-566-7396.
Can I submit
a request for a textbook that is being used in my class?
No, the ILL office does not order textbooks.
How do I
know if I need this service?
Search our library catalog for books or
periodicals we own in print format. Check Find
a Journal or Periodical for articles available online in a
database. If what you need is not in the collection, order it through
ILLiad! Ask for help at the Reference Desk if you are unsure;
don’t
waste your time ordering something we already own!
What is the
cost?
There are no charges for these services except
when materials borrowed from another library incur charges. Charges of
this type are passed on to the student/faculty/staff who requests these
items. Please note that ILL staff will always search for free lenders
first. If you have noted in your ILLiad request that you are not
willing to pay for the item and the ILL staff cannot locate a free
lender, your request will be canceled and you will be notified via your
UT Tyler email address. However, if you do not return books on time,
you will be charged a fine at the rate of $2.00 a day. This charge
applies to all faculty, staff, and students - everyone!
Can I renew
books?
You can request renewals by contacting the
ILL office (903-566-7396) unless "no renewals" is listed as a
restriction. It is up to the lending library to renew a book or decline
your request. Renewals are not granted for overdue books so be sure to
request your renewal a few days before the book is due.
What happens
if my book is overdue?
The UT-Tyler Libraries try very hard to
maintain good working relationships with other libraries! It is
important to return books on time or we jeopardize our ability to
obtain materials in the future. Borrowers who disregard due dates will
have their ILLiad borrowing privileges blocked and will be unable to
check out material until all overdue items are returned. In addition,
you will be charged an overdue fine at the rate of $2.00/day which is
your responsibility to pay.
