The UT Tyler Robert R. Muntz Library is featuring a book display in
the third floor for National Poetry Month. This month-long celebration
was “inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National
Poetry Month is now held every April, when publishers, booksellers,
literary organizations, libraries, schools and poets around the country
band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American
culture. Thousands of businesses and non-profit organizations
participate through readings, festivals, book displays, workshops, and
other events” (from
the Academy of American Poets website). You can visit the site,
poets.org, to learn more, find poems, get book suggestions, and see other ways to celebrate poetry as well.
The library is featuring a diverse selection of poetry books in our
display throughout the month of April. This month our selection includes
a sampling of Texas poets, including a volume by local East Texas poet Anne McCrady.
All books are usually located in the General Collection (third floor)
unless otherwise noted. Please note that all books in the case are
available to for checkout. Simply stop by the Circulation Desk, and we
will be happy to open the case so you can read the book or books you
want. No need to worry about leaving an empty space in the case; we have
more we can put in. In addition, if you need ideas or suggestions of
poetry books and authors, you can stop by the Reference Desk. We’ll be
happy to help you find what you need.
