Los Angeles Times Book Awards for 2008 Announced

The LA Times Book Awards for 2008 were announced last Friday (April 24). If you are looking for some reading ideas, some of this books might fit the bill. You can find the complete list of winners and finalists in the link. Out of the list, the library has the following books in the collection:
  • Steve Coll, The Bin Ladens: an Arabian Family in the American Century (CS1129 .B552 2008. This is located in the Bestseller Collection in the library's second floor). Coll's book was a runner-up for the LA Times Book Award in the category of  "Current Interest." This book was also a finalist for the Pulitzer in Biography or Autobiography.
  • Jane Meyer, The Dark Side: The Inside Story of How the War on Terror Turned into a War on American Ideals (HV6432 .M383 2008. This is located in the library's third floor General Collection). Meyer's book was a runner-up for the LA Times Book Award in the category of  "Current Interest."
  • Mark Mazower, Hitler's Empire: how the Nazis Ruled Europe (DD256.5 .M3955 2008. This is located in the library's third floor General Collection). Mazower won the award in the category of "History."
  • Drew Gilpin Faust, This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War (E468.9 .F385 2008. This is located in the library's third floor General Collection). Faust's book is a runner-up in the category of "History."
  • Tom Rob Smith, Child 44 (PR 6119 .M586 C48 2008. This is located in the Bestseller Collection). Smith's book is a runner-up in the "Mystery/Thriller" category.
